Privacy Policy

We collect as little as we can, we never sell your information, and your written reflections are meant to be private to you.

1. Who we are

Interactive Bible Studio (“we,” “us,” “our”) provides interactive studies of books of the Bible at interactivebiblestudio.com (the “Service”). Interactive Bible Studio is operated by an individual. We care about the people who use the Service, and we’ve tried to collect as little personal information as possible and to be plain about what we do with it. Some studies are free; others may require a one-time purchase or subscription.

2. The short version

• We don’t sell your information, and we never will.
• We don’t run ads, and we don’t share your information with advertisers or data brokers.
• Your written reflections are meant to be private to you.
• We collect only what we need to run the study, save your work (if you ask us to), and let you know when new material is ready.
• You can ask us to show you, correct, export, or delete your information at any time.

3. What we collect

a) If you join the waitlist

When you enter your email address to be notified when a study opens, we store that email address, a note of where you joined from, and the date — so we can email you when the study is ready. That’s all we ask for, and providing it is entirely your choice.

b) Your study activity, stored on your own device

As you move through a lesson, the Service saves your progress and any reflections you write in your browser’s local storage, on your device. We never receive the words you write. Your reflections and journal entries stay on your device and are not transmitted to us. The Service also creates a random, anonymous identifier for your device so your work stays associated with your browser; that identifier is not a name and is not linked to your identity. Separately, we receive anonymous information about how lessons are used — described in Section 3(f).

c) When you create an account (coming soon)

Once accounts are available, you’ll be able to sign in so your journal and progress can be saved and synced across your devices. At that point we will store your email address and the information needed to sign you in, along with your reflections and progress. Reflections are stored under the pseudonymous model described in Section 6.

d) Donations and purchases (coming soon)

If you choose to give, or to purchase a study or subscription, payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and are handled under Stripe’s privacy practices — we never see or store your full card number. We may receive limited confirmation details (such as that a gift or purchase was completed, what was purchased, and a name or email you provide) to give you access, thank you, and keep records.

e) Basic technical information

Like virtually all websites, our hosting provider automatically receives standard technical data when you visit — such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you load — to deliver the site and keep it secure. We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics service, to understand aggregate traffic — for example, how many people visited a page and how quickly pages loaded. It does not use cookies, does not track you across the web, and does not build a profile of you. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels.

f) How lessons are used (anonymous engagement data)

So we can tell which lessons are helpful and where people get stuck, the lesson player sends us a small amount of anonymous activity data: which lesson was opened, which slide you reached and roughly how long you spent on it, whether you finished, whether a quiz answer was right or wrong, whether audio played or failed to load, whether you shared a lesson, and whether you saved a journal entry — recorded only as a broad length band (short, medium, or long). When you arrive at a church’s lesson page we record that the page was viewed, and the website that referred you as a domain name only (for example “facebook.com”, or “direct” if you typed the address or followed a text message) — never the full address of the page you came from.

What this never includes: the text of anything you write, your name, or your email address. The system is built so that written content has no way to be included — only a fixed list of numbers and short labels can be sent, and free text is discarded before anything leaves your device and again when it arrives. This data is tied to the random device identifier described in Section 3(b), never to you personally.

Where a lesson is provided for a specific church, we may share aggregate figures with that church — for example, how many devices opened a lesson and how many finished it. These are counts only; a church cannot see who took part or what anyone wrote.

4. How we use your information

• operate and improve the studies;
• save your progress and reflections, and sync them across your devices if you have an account;
• email waitlist members when a study opens (and only about that, unless you ask for more);
• process and acknowledge donations, and give you access to any studies you purchase;
• understand, in aggregate, how the Service is used — including which lessons are completed and where readers stop, using the anonymous data in Section 3(f); and
• keep the Service secure and prevent abuse.

5. How we share information — and how we don’t

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.

We rely on a small number of trusted service providers (“processors”) who handle data only to provide their service to us, under their own privacy and security commitments:

• Supabase — our database and (soon) sign-in, which stores waitlist emails and, later, accounts and reflections (hosted in the United States).
• Cloudflare — website hosting, security, and privacy-friendly analytics.
• Stripe — payment processing for donations and study purchases (once enabled).
• Our email provider, used when we correspond with you.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or security of people or the Service. If the ministry’s operations are ever transferred to another organization, information may transfer as part of that, subject to this policy.

6. Your reflections, and our pseudonymity commitment

Your written reflections are personal, and we treat them that way. When reflections are stored on our systems (for account holders), they are kept under a sealed, pseudonymous identifier rather than next to your name, and your identifying details are held separately. Any tool we use to understand how the study is going shows responses without the writer’s identity attached.

Re-identifying a specific person’s reflections is something we avoid, and where it is ever necessary (for example, to respond to your own request, or to meet a legal obligation, or to protect someone’s safety), it is a deliberate, recorded action that requires a stated reason — not something done casually or for analytics or marketing. We hold ourselves to this beyond what the law strictly requires, because trust matters in a ministry context.

7. How long we keep information

• Waitlist emails: until the study opens and we’ve notified you, plus a reasonable period — or until you ask to be removed, whichever comes first.
• Account information and reflections: while your account is active, and until you delete them or close your account.
• Donation and purchase records: as needed for accounting and legal recordkeeping.

Information stored only on your device (Section 3b) remains until you clear your browser’s storage; you are in control of it.

8. Your choices and rights

You can, at any time: see what personal information we hold about you; correct information that’s wrong; export a copy of your information; delete your information or close your account; and unsubscribe from the waitlist or any emails (every email includes a way to opt out, and you can also just ask us).

Depending on where you live (for example, the EU/UK under GDPR, or California under the CCPA), you may have additional rights, including the right to object to certain processing and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights. We honor these requests regardless of where you live. To make any request, email [email protected], and we’ll respond within a reasonable time.

For visitors in the EU/UK: our legal bases for processing are your consent (for the waitlist and optional features), performance of a contract (to provide your account and save your work), and our legitimate interests (to keep the Service secure and understand aggregate usage). You can withdraw consent at any time.

9. Families and children

Families are warmly welcome to use the Service together. The studies themselves are free to read, and a child can read and work through a lesson without us collecting any personal information from them.

Where personal information is involved — joining the waitlist, or creating an account once accounts are available — that step is meant to be handled by an adult. A parent or guardian should be the account holder and provide the email address; children may then use the study under that adult’s supervision. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information directly, please contact [email protected] and we will remove it promptly. As an account holder, you may review, export, or delete information associated with your account at any time.

10. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit and database access rules that limit what can be read or written. No method of storage or transmission is ever completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we ever become aware of a breach affecting your information, we will act promptly and notify you where required by law.

11. Where your information is stored

Our database and hosting are located in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information will be processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate, which may have different data-protection laws than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date above, and for significant changes we’ll provide a more prominent notice. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
